"Disproportionate"

Israel's military invasion and naval blockade of Lebanon is being denounced in European capitals and at the United Nations as a "disproportionate" response to the kidnapping this week of two of its soldiers by Hezbollah. Israel's decision late last month to invade Gaza in retaliation for the kidnapping of another soldier by Hamas was also condemned as lacking in proportion. So here's a question for our global solons: Since hostage-taking is universally regarded as an act of war, what "proportionate" action do they propose for Israel? In the case of Hamas, perhaps Israel could rain indiscriminate artillery fire on Gaza City, surely a proportionate response to the 800 rockets Hamas has fired at Israeli towns in the last year alone. In the case of Hezbollah, it might mean carpet bombing a section of south Beirut, another equally proportionate response to Hezbollah's attacks on civilian Jewish and Israeli targets in Buenos Aires in the early 1990s.

I have asked this question many times in the past few weeks to our friends on that side of the... political spectrum.

Everyone seems to want to ignore me when I suggest fireing 60mm morters into Gaza (Kassams are about that size). as for Lebanon the 155mm that we are fireing might fall into that list. What is ammusing is that no one seems to care that THEY are fireing into cities at random while aiming at civilions (HUGE violations of Int. Law - btw)while we have been aiming mainly at infustructure that kills very little and at fighters/terrorists on their side.
but don't that get in the way of a good Israel Bashing.

Oleh :

your government is doing and has been doing horrible things .

We surely know that you own that 155 and morter and all those nukes too. This is not a war between 2 armies : it is a confrontation between people who are using wtever possible to defend themselves.

What is happening with Israel now ( with huzballah ) might surely push more people to think : why these people are doing that ? Why are they kidnapping our soildiers ?

Maybe this will make us closer to REALLY believing in peace as a solution, not your 155mm's !

I don't understand it either. Only the US is allowed to go on the offensive to protect itself. When Israel does this, it's called disproportionate reponse. So, why should Israel always just respond? Why are we not allowed to seek out and destroy those seeking to destroy us?
