My predictions for the future of the world

Raccoon complimented me and called me a prophetess, but with that compliment, I decided to predict where I see the world heading. My bottom line prediction is one of optimism. Israel always faces annhilation, but so have the Jewish people - for 5,000 years. And yet for 5,000 years, the Jewish people have somehow managed to survive. Actually, we have not only survived, we have thrived. I believe that eventually, the pathetic Olmert will be replaced by someone who really does have Israel's interests at heart. Somehow Israel will make it through. I do not know how, but it will happen. I also believe that the West has the capability and will to win against Islamofascism. It just has to get to a point where the threat is THAT OBVIOUS, that the world will back a unified action. Think WWII - things had to get VERY BAD before any nation decided to fight Nazi Germany. Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it - we have not learned from history, and perhaps we never will. But I am a student of history, and I see certain patterns that have emerged. Eventually, the world will find a way to balance itself out. Evil triumphs over good, but never forever. Things will get much worse before it gets better. The question is...how bad will it have to get before the West gets off its tuchus and decides to act? That I do not have the answer to. You would think 9/11 would have been the wake up call, but it was not. To quote Team America, the West may need a "9/11 times a thousand" before it has the unity and drive to fight. Part of that '9/11 times a thousand' may include the nuking of Israel. But at the same time, I do believe Israel will survive, despite the genocidal hopes and dreams of the far too many in the world. There will be no end of the world, contrary to what many religious fundies believe!

People have been predicting the end of the world since... well, the beginning of the world. I'm sure we'll have wars yet, and we'll find ever new and creative ways of destroying each other in bigger and better numbers... but in the end, we love ourselves too much to die out completely.

Irina> Well, there is a difference between the end of the world and merely the end of the world as we see it, like when Rome fell (even though Rome needed to fall), it was apocalyptic to most everyone within that sphere of influence, but the world continued.

Now, one day the world will end, when the sun expands and engulfs it, but that is a few billion years away.

If you want a decent Israeli PM, you have to convince Israeli jews to stop being such a bunch of liberals. Ohlmert is Barak (Clinton's "appointee") reincarnated. Sharon was just as bad. Netanyahu is the only man suitable for the job, yet he offends too many liberal special interests.

Heh. Optimism is so sweet :)

The struggle between Eros and Thanatos is always won by Thanatos, eventually. To [mis]quote Chuck Palahniuk - "On a long enough timescale, we're all dead".

So it is mostly a question of whether hunams can create an event cataclysmic enough to actually destroy hunamity. And now... they can. All it takes is a Nero. Or just stupidity and complacency, like in Bhopal. Or a honest mistake - no system is fail-safe. Or even AJ or OBL getting their paws on some nukes.

I hope I'm wrong and optimism is the way to go... but in the meanwhile... carpe diem :)

In the meantime, drink up, because if the end of the world is coming soon, you might as well enjoy the party!

Predicting the end of the world is big business.

Anyway if we die out, then that will just be evolution in action. Something else will take over our niche in the world.
Human beings are generally arrogant in the belief that we rule the planet. Just to be pedantic, insects have far larger populations than human beings.
War and peace is part of a cycle, i think we are coming to the end of the peaceful cycle. Yes there have been wars, but not on the same scale as the first two world wars. Things have been relatively peaceful since the end of world war 2 apart from the soviet threat of nuclear winter.
I'll get my coat.
