Virginia Tech campus shootings

I'm at a loss for words over this. It appears yet again that America needs to debate it's gun laws properly. However the time for that is not now. The gun man has been named as Cho Seung-Ho, a 26 year old student from South Korea (who was in the US legally). It's just a tragic waste of life and seems senseless. One of the Victims was a 75 to 76 (reports are conflicting on his exact age) year old Professor of mechanics and engineering. His name was Liviu Librescu, a survivor of the Holocaust and a well know figure in academic circles internationally. He apparently put himself between the gunman and his students, to allow them time to escape through a classroom window. A terrible waste of life, as for so many of the victims yesterday. My thoughts are with the family's of the Victims. Virginia tech shootings CNN BBC reports on the shootings. BBC in pictures report JP.com Article Foxnews Article

Tragic day. My thoughts are with the family and friends of the victims at VA Tech. So senseless and just wrong.

One more thing to remember - VA Tech is a gun-free school. The shooter had his gun illegally. If guns were allowed to be lawfully held by good people, perhaps this tragedy would have turned out differently, I don't know.

In any case, I don't see how this case somehow proves guns should be taken out of the hands of citizens.

The articles about how Australia and England and China have gun control miss a basic point or two, which does nothing more than prove that the media is against us.

Violent crime went up in both the UK and Australia since their gun bans. Australia is now registering swords, knives, crossbows and regular bows, and a move is afoot to ban pellet guns. In the UK, you can go to prison for faking out a burgler in your home with a water pistol.

China is a communist dictatorship, where their gun control is clearly used to keep the people under control.

Yet the media sites these nations as examples for us to follow.

Students With Guns STOPPED The Last VA College Gunman...

In 2002, a Nigerian student distraught over his grades, killed three people at the Appalachian School of Law in Virginia. The attacker was subdued by two fellow students with their own personal handguns. there are lots of similarities between these two events, tragically, this time it was much worse...

When Odighizuwa exited the building where the shooting took place, he was approached by two students with personal firearms.

At the first sound of gunfire, fellow students Tracy Bridges and Mikael Gross, unbeknownst to each other, had run to their vehicles to grab their personal firearms. Gross, a police officer with the Grifton Police Department in his home state of North Carolina, retrieved a bulletproof vest and a 9 mm handgun. Bridges pulled his .357 Magnum pistol from beneath the driver's seat of his Chevy Tahoe. As Bridges later told the Richmond Times Dispatch, he was prepared to shoot to kill.

Bridges and Gross approached Odighizuwa from different angles, with Bridges yelling at Odighizuwa to drop his gun. Odighizuwa then dropped his firearm and was subdued by a third student, Ted Besen, who was unarmed. Once Odighizuwa was securely held down Gross went back to his vehicle and retrieved handcuffs to help hold Odighizuwa until police could arrive.

Police reports later noted there were two empty eight round magazines belonging to Odighizuwa’s handgun. When Odighizuwa dropped the gun, it still had three bullets in it.
